WARA ML researchers are working on the WASP and Vinnova funded project Interactive Digital Twin through Multimodal AI. The goal of the project is to improve investigative tools and workflows for the Police Authorities. The vision involves developing a form of digital witness — a system capable of reconstructing and analyzing crime scenes based on collected multimodal data surrounding criminal events.
The project started September 2024 and will run through February 2026. Recent progress include collaboration with police investigators and forensic experts to design interconnected crime scenes based on current Swedish crime trends and carefully masking sensitive content in more than 15 000 pages of forensic data before processing to OCR (optical character recognition). A project demo will be showcased at Norrköping Visualiseringscenter and presented at the International Digital Forensic Conference 2026 at Linköping University in March 2026.
The following organisations are involved in the project: Santa Anna IT Research Institute AB, Digital Forensics Sweden, Avancerad Digitalisering, Linköping University, Lutra Interactive AB, Intel AB, Sankt Kors fastighetsab, East Sweden Game, AI Sweden.
